Mr. W.M.P.Y.B. Rathnayake

An accomplished English language academic with nearly two decades of experience in higher education, currently serving as a Senior Lecturer and Head of Department at the University of Moratuwa, with expertise in English for Specific Purposes, academic literacy, and English Medium Instruction, and a strong record of curriculum innovation across engineering and interdisciplinary programmes. Holds advanced qualifications in linguistics and TESL and is currently engaged in doctoral research focused on re-engineering assessment practices to foster metacognitive skills in STEM education.

Has led major national initiatives, including the development and rollout of the Academic Literacy for STEM Studies programme, and contributed to policy and assessment frameworks such as UTEL.
