Nebula and TVEC partner to offer, empowering telco professionals and enhancing industry competence.

SLT-MOBITEL Training Centre the education arm of SLT-MOBITEL has joined forces with the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC) to offer National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) assessments, with an aim to empower telecommunications professionals and enhance industry competencies.

The agreement was inked recently by signatories Janaka Abeysinghe, Chief Executive Officer, Sri Lanka Telecom PLC and Dr. K. A. Lalithadheera, Director General, Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission. Senior officials from both institutions also participated in the event. Representing SLT-MOBITEL were Janaka Silva, GM - Talent Development - SLT-MOBITEL, Dr. Asiri Indika, DGM - Talent Development Centre - SLT-MOBITEL, and Leonard Lakmal, Eng. SLT-MOBITEL Talent Development Centre – Moratuwa. Dr. Janaka Jayalath, Deputy Director General, Priyanga Nanayakkara, Director - AQA, and Samanmalie Pathiranage, Assistant Director – AQA, represented TVEC.

The SLT-MOBITEL Training Centre is recognised for offering world class educational solutions and committed to providing comprehensive training and qualifications to meet the evolving needs of the telecommunications sector and the knowledge economy.

Janaka Abeysinghe, CEO, SLT shared his thoughts saying, “We are pleased to announce our partnership with TVEC and our commitment in providing National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) assessments for the telecom sector using our education arm SLT-MOBITEL Training Centre. With the rapid advancements and evolving nature of the telecommunications sector, it is crucial to acknowledge the expertise and capabilities of professionals already working in the field. RPL assessments offer an opportunity for these individuals to have their skills formally recognized and validated, boosting their professional credibility and ensure career advancement.

The collaboration between SLT-MOBITEL Training Centre and TVEC marks a significant milestone in the telecommunications industry. With this agreement, the SLT-MOBITEL Training Centre will act as an assessment body to award national vocational qualifications through Recognition of Prior Learning, facilitating competency-based assessments specifically tailored to the telecommunications industry. 

Dr. K. A. Lalithadheera, Director General, TVEC, stated, “Leading the way in technical and vocational education in Sri Lanka, we are committed to certifying skilled technicians through the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) approach, granting them NVQ certification. By evaluating past work evidence and assessing current competencies according to the National Competency Standards (NCS), we ensure rigorous standards are met. In recognition of their industry leadership, we have entrusted SLT-MOBITEL, along with their renowned SLT-MOBITEL Training Centre, to conduct RPL assessments and award NVQ in selected occupations. Leveraging the extensive network of training and testing centers at SLT-MOBITEL Training Centre, along with our proficient human resources, we offer candidates a significant advantage in this process. We encourage aspiring individuals in the sector to apply for NVQ certification, guaranteeing official recognition of their skills. NVQ holders will gain numerous benefits, including national and international recognition. Furthermore, they are invited to obtain a 'Skills Passport,' expanding their skill set to global career opportunities.”

Through this initiative, SLT-MOBITEL Training Centre is able to promote the importance of lifelong learning and provide professionals in the industry with valuable vocational qualifications. Additionally, as a centre providing RPL assessments, SLT-MOBITEL Training Centre offers a formal process to evaluate and certify individuals' competencies gained through practical experience, enabling them to receive recognition for their skills. SLT-MOBITEL Training Centre will also ensure that the RPL assessments adhere to industry standards and best practices.

Furthermore, as the SLT-MOBITEL Training Centre has been appointed as an assessment body for conducting RPL assessments, employees who working in technical, sales, and contact centre fields now can apply for the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 4 through RPL 

The assessment process is designed to accommodate different individuals from diverse backgrounds. By offering this revolutionary pathway, SLT-MOBITEL Training Centre aims to streamline the qualification process and provide a more accessible route for individuals to enhance their skills and career prospects in the telecommunications industry. 

Nebula hosts Graduation Ceremony supporting students step into brighter future.

The education arm of SLT-MOBITEL, the National ICT Solutions Provider, the SLT Training Centre (SLTTC), held its 4th Annual Graduation ceremony recently, celebrating the outstanding accomplishments of its students.
The event hosted at the BMICH Main Conference Hall, celebrated the hard work and dedication of SLTTC graduates who had completed the BEng (Hons) Degree Programme conferred by the University of Hertfordshire, UK and the BTEC HND Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and the Pearson BTEC HND Computing awarded by Pearson, UK. 
The Graduation Ceremony also marked a milestone for SLTTC as its students have achieved global qualifications demonstrating the institute’s commitment to education and skill development for the nation.
Gracing the ceremony was Guest of Honour, Professor Daniel McCluskey, Dean, School of Physics, Engineering, and Computer Science, University of Hertfordshire, UK (www.herts.ac.uk). Also in attendance was Janaka Abeysinghe, CEO SLT, University of Hertfordshire Delegates, Pearson BTEC delegate’s senior officers from SLT-MOBITEL, parents and well-wishers.  
Addressing the audience, Guest of Honour, Professor Daniel McCluskey, Dean, School of Physics, Engineering, and Computer Science, University of Hertfordshire, UK, said "This day marks a special occasion, a day of celebration, as we recognize the hard work, dedication, and achievements of our graduates. The education you have gained is not merely knowledge, but it empowers you as individuals to innovate, create, and transform the world As you depart your time at SLTTC and embark on the next phase of your journey, I encourage you to embrace new challenges and meet them with strength and courage. All of us on this platform have great confidence in your abilities. We applaud your persistence, talent, achievements, and aspirations.

A total of 28 students received the BEng (Hons) degree from the University of Hertfordshire. The Best Student Award was presented to Nipuni Sandalika Weearasinghe Felicitated for receiving BEng Honours Electrical and Electronic Engineering, with 1st  class honours. 
22 students received the Pearson BTEC HND in Electrical and Electronics qualitification and the Gold Medal for the best academic performance was awarded to Binura Deshan Gunathunga. Additionally, 37 students received their Pearson BTEC HND in Computing certification and the Gold Medal for the Best Academic Performance was presented to Siva Kumar Kavindya Dilshani Ranaweera.

Empowering individuals with skills and knowledge they need to excel in career pathways and make a positive impact on society, SLT Training Centre also conducts a wide range of programmes including the Pearson BTEC International Level 3 foundation and the Pearson BTEC HND in Digital Technologies. Students are invited to enrol in course such as the Certificate in Applied Information Technology (CAIT), Certificate in Telecommunication Technician (NVQ 3 or 4), Optical Fibre Courses, Network Security Courses, CCNA Courses, RPL programmes to explore the field technology and receive training opportunities.  

Nebula receives dual honours at Pearson BTEC Higher Education Forum 2023.

The education arm of SLT-MOBITEL, the SLT Training Centre (SLTTC), received prestigious dual honours at the Pearson BTEC Higher Education Forum 2023 held at the Colombo Kingsbury Hotel, recently. SLTTC was awarded impressive titles, namely ‘Emerging Centre of the Year 2022’ and the ‘Top Performing Centre 2022—Bronze Award,’ at the event, which was graced by leading higher education providers.
Senior representatives from Pearson who attend the event included Jane Baker, Vice President, Business Development UK and International Workforce Skill, Premila Paulraj, Director, Employability and Qualifications, South Asia, and Suriya Bible, DGM, English Language Learning Workforce Skills.
SLTTC offers an extensive array of programmes, equipping individuals with the essential skills and knowledge required to thrive in diverse career paths and contribute positively to society. Among the significant programmes offered are the BEng (Hons) Degree Programme conferred by the University of Hertfordshire, UK, as well as the BTEC HND Electrical and Electronic Engineering and the Pearson BTEC. 
The Pearson recognition validates programme excellence, student success prospects, and strengthens SLTTC's competitive positioning and brand reputation as a top-tier globally connected training institute, driving impact at national and individual levels.
SLTTC received the title ‘Emerging Centre of the Year 2022’ in acknowledgment of its outstanding contributions   to education. The accolade is the first top performing centre Award won by SLT Training Centre since the introduction of Pearson BTEC Qualification at the SLT Training Centre in 2005.
Since SLTTC was established, it has accomplished several key achievements including the successful introduction of two new programmes; the Pearson Level 03 International Foundation and the Pearson BTEC Level 05 Higher National Diploma in Digital Technologies. Additionally, the centre demonstrated innovation by introducing NVQ Level 06 equivalent qualifications tailored for the Pearson BTEC Level 05 HND in Electrical & Electronics.
As the recipient of the bronze award  for the Top Performing Centre, SLTTC was recognised for its increased number of student registrations. The award also affirms SLTTC’s commitment to shaping technical education and empowering Sri Lankan youth with globally aligned skill competencies relevant on a global scale.
